What is the Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC) and why is it necessary?

by | Dec 2, 2025 | Useful

The Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC) is one of the most important documents required for the safe operation of an electrical installation. It applies to both residential and commercial premises and is essential for connecting or reconnecting to the PPC network via HEDNO.

What does an EIC include?

The EIC is not merely a declaration – it is a comprehensive set of documents that includes:

  • Technical inspection of the electrical installation
  • Measurements of earthing, insulation, and protection
  • Certification of proper functioning of electrical systems
  • Signature and stamp of a certified or licensed electrical engineer

As part of the process, measurements are carried out with specialized instruments (megger, testers, etc.) and protection systems are checked, such as the RCD (residual current device).

Why is it necessary?

The EIC is required for:

  • For new electrical installations
  • For power reconnections
  • For change of name on the PPC meter
  • For safety inspection at specific time intervals (4–14 years depending on the premises)

Beyond a formal obligation, the EIC ensures that the installation operates safely, reducing the risk of fire, electric shock, and malfunctions.
